What Counselling Is & Is Not

Counselling provides a supportive and reflective dialogue to help you explore life situations, personal patterns, and decision-making. It is important to clarify the boundaries of this service:

  • In Scope: Personal growth, stress navigation, emotional clarity, relationship understanding, life transition support, and practical self-care strategies.
  • Out of Scope: Psychiatric diagnosis, medical advice, prescription of medications, or intensive clinical mental health treatment for acute psychiatric disorders.

Confidentiality & Practical Limits

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of counselling. What you share during sessions is kept strictly private. Standard ethical and legal exceptions to confidentiality include:

  • When there is imminent risk of severe harm to yourself or others.
  • When disclosure is mandatory under legal requirement or court order.

Should any situation arise where confidentiality needs to be discussed, it will be handled with transparency and respect.

Emergency & Crisis Services Notice

Counselling is Not an Emergency Service

This counselling practice cannot provide immediate or crisis intervention. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health emergency, severe distress, or thoughts of self-harm, please contact local emergency medical services or a crisis helpline immediately.

  • India Crisis Helpline (KIRAN): 1800-599-0019
  • Tele-MANAS: 14416 / 1800-891-4416
  • Vandrevala Foundation: +91 9999 666 555
  • Local Emergency Services: 112 (or your region's local emergency response number)

Professional Referrals

If during our work together it appears that your needs require medical, psychiatric, or specialized clinical care outside my scope of practice, I will openly discuss this with you and provide appropriate professional referral recommendations.

Mutual Expectations

A productive counselling relationship relies on mutual respect, promptness for scheduled sessions, and clear communication. Both client and counsellor maintain the right to discontinue counselling if either party feels the arrangement is no longer appropriate or beneficial.
